Watford are reportedly negotiating with Barcelona to sign Paco Alcacer on a two-year loan deal.

Sport, the publication which broke news of Gerard Deulofeu’s loan switch from Barca to the Hornets in January, claim the deal is all but done and hinges on Alcacer agreeing to make the move.

Should the 24-year-old head to Vicarage Road, Watford would be forced to sign Alcacer on the completion of the second year of his loan.

Watford are said to be reluctant to pay over the odds for the forward, leading them to pursue the extended loan move which would see the fee paid over the next two seasons deducted from his final transfer.

Barca had initially hoped to offload Alcacer permanently and were demanding the best part of £30 million, but have seen various avenues to such a conclusion closed off.

The player is himself uncertain on where his future lies and had previously been holding out for a potential return to Valencia where he made his senior debut.

He has made 50 appearances across all competitions for Barca since joining the Catalan giants in August 2016, scoring 15 goals in the process.

Watford are in the market for a striker to add depth to their ranks and currently face heading into the 2018/19 season with just Troy Deeney, Andre Gray and Stefano Okaka in their ranks.
