Harrow Borough's relegation fears worsened after a damaging 2-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers Wingate & Finchley.

The loss pushed Wingate above them and left Dave Anderson’s side third bottom in the Ryman Premier table.

Boro made a slow start to the contest and were punished when Wayne O’Sullivan’s cross was finished neatly by Anthony Thomas.

Anderson’s side grabbed an equaliser in the 24th minute when Rob Wolleaston pulled the ball back for Saheed Sankoh to slide it into the net.

The hosts gave themselves a mountain to climb ten minutes into the second half when a terrible pass from James Burgess set up a Wingate attack and Elvijs Putnins was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area.

Danny Leech took over in goal and the defender made a superb save to turn O’Sullivan’s effort onto the post.

But Leech was unable to stop Wingate from netting the winner after 66 minutes when O’Sullivan fired the ball past him.

The hosts were unable to put Wingate under late pressure and it was the visitors who came closest to scoring through another O’Sullivan effort.

Wingate’s win ensured they picked up maximum points over Boro this season.

Boro travel to Metropolitan Police this weekend as they search for a badly needed result and a first away victory since October.
