This week marks exactly two years since the ‘bedroom tax’ was introduced by the Tory-led Government.

This cruel tax has hit almost 500 low-paid households across Harrow and has cost the average family in London more than £1,000 a year. What’s worse is that more than half of those people affected are disabled.

I’ve met many people in our community who have been hit by this tax and the pressure it has put on people at such difficult times is appalling.

The current Tory MP for Harrow East even voted against protecting carers in Harrow from being hit by the tax last October. If we have another Tory-led Government, the bedroom tax will see families made a further £5,000 worse off.

We have more than 24,000 carers across Harrow who have been let down by an MP who has ignored their needs.

If I am elected as the Labour MP for Harrow East — the place I’ve called home all my life — one of my first acts will be to vote to scrap this cruel and unfair tax.

By voting Labour on May 7, Harrow can help end the bedroom tax.
