We residents of Harrow were aware the Labour-run Harrow Borough Council was proposing to introduce an ‘introductory’ £75 charge for collecting garden waste.
Your report “We don’t want this garden tax”, (Harrow Times, January 22), quotes Councillor Varsha Parmar saying “These proposals will save us nearly £30 per tonne on disposal costs”.
If separating food waste and garden waste will make such an important saving, why is Labour proposing the additional charge on householders? As others have suggested, this is a stealth tax imposed by a party whose financial track record at both local and national levels is disastrous.
