It would seem that Husain Akhtar, despite being unable to bring himself to stand as a candidate in the recent elections, still doesn’t know when to stop (“Congratulations to councillors”, Your Views, May 29).

Readers should probably be reminded that the disgraced ex-councillor was found to “...bring his office [as a councillor] into disrepute...” following a council standards hearing into his behaviour earlier this year.

But back to the issue at hand: Mr Akhtar was involved in the deceptively-named Harrow Council for Racial Justice, latterly renamed the Harrow Council for Justice, which has no links whatsoever to Harrow Borough Council and which seemed to be just him and a few like-minded chums using it as a vehicle to attack others.

Having been caught as one of the names behind it, Mr Akhtar scrambled to distance himself from it, perhaps hopeful that he could salvage his reputation in time for last month’s election.

Alas not, and having shamefully been found guilty at his standards hearing, he was forced to pull out as a candidate.

Now, we see that he writes from the Harrow Monitoring Group — a meaningless name and constructed with no mandate to represent the people of the borough, but, as his letter of last week shows, is yet another mechanism to attack Councillor Susan Hall.

If he were able to harness it, I’m sure there are numerous charities and voluntary groups that Mr Akhtar could exercise his clearly limitless time and effort with to much greater benefit for the community.

In the meantime, I would urge the Harrow Times to give this self-serving character no further ego-boosting column inches.
