The death of a man found in a South Harrow flat is being treated as “unexplained” by police.

Police were called to the ground floor flat on Park Lane by the London Ambulance Service after a man in his 50s was found unresponsive on Tuesday morning.

Officers attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers remained to guard the crime scene all night, and were still outside the property on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said: “At this early stage, the death is being treated as unexplained.”

A distraught woman was seen being escorted away from the property by plainclothes police officers later on Tuesday. It is believed that a couple lived in the flat with their two dogs.

One neighbour said she had not seen the woman for a few days before the incident and had feared the worst.

“She looked completed shocked – pure grey,” said another neighbour.

“She walked a few steps outside the house then collapsed. Police then escorted her into an unmarked car.

“They were just a quiet couple who kept themselves to themselves.”

However she said the man was “always drunk” and had seen him walking up and down the street on Saturday.

“He was making a lot of noise and was roaring. He hadn’t been looking well,” she said.

“I am worried about the dogs. She looked after them well but they hadn’t been barking and they usually did when someone walked past the house.

“When I saw the police and ambulances I was worried there may have been a gas leak or something.”

She described the moment she realised something was amiss.

“There was a lot of commotion – and comings and goings. Police arrived along with an ambulance and ambulance cars - some more arrived and others left but the ambulance van stayed all day.

“What made me look out was there were plainclothes police – detectives probably – putting on forensic suits to go inside.

“A woman turned up in a forensic van and started taking pictures of the outside and side of the house.”

It is believed a private ambulance came to collect the body at around 7pm.

Police said next of kin had been informed and a post-mortem will be carried out in due course.

No arrests have been made but enquiries are ongoing.
