A Harrow MP has backed Theresa May as Britain’s next prime minister, calling her a “strong leader”.

Conservative Bob Blackman, MP for Harrow East, said Ms May was in the best position to take over as leader due to her strong backing within the Conservative Party.

“Theresa May commands the backing of a clear majority of MPs and has already strongly confirmed her commitment to delivering the instruction of the people to withdraw from the European Union,” he said.

“I am pleased we will have a strong leader to continue the mandate received by the Conservative Party at the General Election last year and look forward to working with her as we move on from this orderly change of leadership to implement the right plan for the long term good of the economy.

“Britain has a bright future ahead as trade talks start with important emerging economies like India and China as well as the USA and members of the Commonwealth, and I am very positive about our prospects going forward.”

Ms May is set to take over as prime minister on Wednesday.
