Wheels whirred across a sports hall as a club completed 500 laps of an indoor court for charity.

A team of 12 players from the London Wheelchair Rugby Club took it in turns to complete a total of 500 laps of the sports hall in Stanmore’s Aspire Leisure Centre yesterday afternoon.

Hosted to celebrate the club’s 25th anniversary, the team completed the challenge in under two hours.

Steve Palmer, of the London Wheelchair Rugby Club, said: “The Aspire 500 challenge came about because we wanted to hold an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the London Wheelchair Rugby Club, and we wanted to hold it at the Aspire Leisure Centre because it has been our home for the past 17 years.

“It was a fun event to organise and take part in. “This year we are trying to reach out to a new generation of player and so we would love to hear from anyone interested in playing wheelchair rugby with us.”

The club also used the event to raise money for Aspire, which specialises in supporting people with spinal injuries.
