Landlord questioned by housing officials after 13 people found living in Wealdstone house

First published in News

Suspected illegal immigrants were found living in a rat-infested house.

Eight men and women were held on suspicion of being in the country illegally after officers from Wealdstone and Marlborough Safer Neighbourhoods Team executed a search warrant at an address in Byron Road, Wealdstone on Monday.

Police, Harrow Council and immigration officers had received information that the house was overcrowded.

Officers found 13 people living in the three-bedroom house, where they were sleeping on mattresses on the floors.

The house was infested with cockroaches and had signs of rat droppings in every room.

Harrow Council housing officers are questioning the landlord, who had not registered his property for letting out.

Cllr Varsha Parmar, who is responsible for environment, crime and community safety, said: “We are going to work with police on protecting tenants and ensuring that the crush on housing does not become a licence to rip off the vulnerable.”

A very sad reflection of what might be happening in some of our Wards.I am sure this matter will be examined thoroughly and that Cllr Varsha Parmar with the help of the Police and other partners get to the bottom of the matter which brings up all sorts of questions ---Health and Safety,Immigration(p
ossibly) Housing issues, irresponsible landlords and a host of others.

Since this property is on her Ward she will have the opportunity to deal with it quickly and help put things right.Good work on the part of the local Safer Neighbourhood Teams from Marlborough and Wealdstone.

I am sure neighbours will be concerned about vermin spreading to their homes and that the Council will be working on this too.

Just tip on the ice bug , there are hundreds of scumbag landlords in the borough.
They should all be named and shamed with their photos.
Council should also claim all the I'll gotten monies.

@Sonoo. How can you be so politically correct as to say; "Health and Safety,Immigration(p
ossibly) Housing issues, irresponsible landlords and a host of others."

"POSSIBLY" This is why we'll never sort out these problem, some people are refusing to see what is in front of their own eyes.
