Synagogues in Harrow join forces for Mitzvah Day events

THREE synagogues in Harrow will join forces for activities aimed at young people for a good deeds day this Sunday.

Kol Chai, Hatch End Masorti, in Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, and Middlesex New Synagogue and Harrow and Wembley Progressive synagogues, both in Bessborough Road, Harrow, are taking part in several events for Mitzvah Day.

The day is a good deeds day, which calls on thousands of volunteers to donate time rather than money to charity and community projects.

Headteacher at Kol Chai, at Hatch End Masorti synagogue, said: “We’re wrapping up Barnados boxes and we’re working with Harrow Conservation Forum in a bramble-clearing event in Rayners Lane at Newton Farm Ecology Park.

“We’re also going to a place called Pocklington House, in Northwood, which is a care home for partially sighted and blind people, so we’ll sing and have a chat with the people there.

“The events are aimed at children and teenagers but obviously it's good to have the adults along to help out.

“We decided it would be good to combine helping the environment as well as people.

“I think it’s important our children learn about helping the wider community and the people around them.

“It’s a very important day and we’ve decided to do as much we can to help.”
