Homosexual and transgender history

BRENT Council will launch Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) history month on February 10 as part of the country's first ever celebration of the LGBT struggle.

The official opening, at Brent Town Hall in Forty Lane, will include a photo exhibition on LGBT history, which will be on display throughout February.

It comes after Brent Council were named 59th in gay pressure group Stonewall's list of the top 100 gay-friendly employers.

An LGBT forum, set up last year to represent LGBT staff in the council, is one of the council's most notable achievements in helping to promote equal opportunities.

Lead member for equalities and service Improvement, Councillor Dorman Long said: "The launch of LGBT history month proves our commitment to equal opportunities, so we are delighted that Brent Council has been recognised by Stonewall as one of the UK's most gay-friendly employers."
