A POLICEMAN has praised the victims of two brutal rapes after their attacker was jailed for the public protection.

Winston Antinio White attacked a 28-year-old woman on October 10 last year after a binge on crack cocaine, and held another at knifepoint before sexually assaulting her.

Detective Constable Paul Ridley, of Brent Police, praised the victims who both knew White and gave evidence against him during the trial.

He said: "I personally commend the two ladies that were courageous enough to attend court and give evidence.

"The fact that the judge imposed an indeterminate sentence endorses the serious risk that this man posed on members of the public.

"At no stage has White shown any remorse for raping either woman."

He forced the first woman to go to Copland Community School Recreational Ground, in London Road, where he threatened and raped her.

He then stole her mobile phone to stop her calling the police and fled from the scene.

At White's trial, the jury heard about the second rape, when the 44-year-old, of Scarle Road, Wembley, held a woman at knifepoint in her home in February last year.

He slashed her across the face before raping her.

The trial jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty on April 29 after he had pleaded not guilty to rape.

Sentencing White on Friday, May 30, at Harrow Crown Court, Judge Madge said there is a significant risk he will commit sexual offences in the future.

She said he should spend at least six-and-a-half years in jail, and must then convince a parole board that he is safe to be released.
