A HEADTEACHER says he is “delighted” after his South Harrow school was labelled “outstanding” by a watchdog.

Ofsted praised the “warm, nurturing environment” at Heathland School, in Eastcote Lane, and said “remarkable leadership has embedded high expectations of what pupils can achieve”.

Inspectors said teachers raise the ability of the children so that by the end of year 6 they are average in English and above average in maths.

Chris Spruce, headteacher of the school, said: “I am delighted that the passion, commitment and hard work of everyone in the Heathland team has been recognised.

“We are very proud of our children and we strive to give each one of them a world-class education in a caring happy school.”

Nasim Butt, the Ofsted inspector, said: “School leaders have been very successful in creating a culture where learning is highly valued, resulting in accelerated progress in a relatively short space of time.

“Pupils bask in the warm, nurturing environment that the school provides.”

The school opened in September 2009 after Roxeth Manor Infants and Roxeth Manor Junior Schools combined.

Ayan Mohammed, a governor and local parent, said: “This school has been transformed. We can see so many things are better. I think this outstanding report is well-deserved.”
