A HARROW restaurateur is celebrating after being nominated for Britain’s Best Caterer of the Year Award.
Salim Chowdhury, 35, owner of Jaflong Restaurant in Northolt Road, will discover next month whether he is the winner of the award, organised by governing body for the curry industry, the Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA).
Mr Chowdhury will attend the BCA Awards 2010 on October 10 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in central London along with the other nominees.
He said: “I’m very excited and very happy as I’ve been shortlisted as one of four restaurants in the London area.
"This nomination is very sentimental to me, especially as it's being awarded by such a reputable organization.
“I only found out I’d been nominated a couple of days ago. I’m going to be telling everyone about it, especially if I win.”
Mr Chowdhury opened Jaflong, a family run Indian restaurant, when he was 17. He also owns Curry Mahal in South Harrow.
He said: “It is the customers that make my business and I’d like to thank them, as well as all my hard working staff for helping me achieve this.”
The BCA Awards will be hosted by EastEnders actor Nitin Ganatra, who plays Masood Ahmed, and Daybreak presenter Tasmin Lucia Khan.
Nominations for the awards have been shortlisted by a panel of judges comprising industry leaders.
President of the BCA, Bajloor Rashid said: “We look forward to unveiling new unfound jewels of our catering industry."
