I agree with Gareth Thomas MP who says: “it is good news if the present leisure centre is not going to close”. In the leading article of September 11, what strange language has been used, eg: “...people should look beyond protests and criticism.” It is every citizen’s right to do so and councillors and their plans are not exempt from it.
That the prospect of not being able to demolish a perfectly solid multi-million, bricks and mortar leisure centre constitutes a “rainy day” is absurd. Reduce, reuse, recycle should be the mantra of all good local councils. Demolishing and rebuilding compounds every problem that we have made for ourselves. This is super consumerism, over-indulgent and wasteful and our planet cannot afford it.
We really do have to make bold adjustments and find ways and means of conserving what we have, using our ingenuity and imagination in order to be more self-sufficient.
