A 31-year-old man from Edgware has been jailed for committing an armed robbery at a betting shop last year.

Glen Phillips, of Mead Road, Edgware, was jailed for six years for the robbery, which happened at Corals Bookmakers, Honeypot Lane in March last year.

Officers attended the scene and were told how Mr Phillips, and another suspect, came into the shop wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons, threatening members of staff and customers into handing over cash.

One man, armed with a handgun and threatening to use it, approached a member of staff working behind the counter demanding cash. Fearing for her life, she was forced into handing over £250 in cash. Both men were seen running out of the shop and getting into a blue Vauxhall Corsa, which was waiting in an alleyway behind the shops.

25-year-old Jerome Graham-Kitt was identified and arrested by officers after his fingerprints were found on a bag at the scene. Mr Phillips was identified following extensive enquiries, and he was arrested in September last year. Officers found the exact clothing worn in the robbery stashed in his loft.

Phillips pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery at an earlier hearing. He then pleaded guilty to firearms and offensive weapon offences.

Graham-Kitt was acquitted of two counts of theft, being in possession of a firearm and being in possession of an offensive weapon, following a six-day-trial at Harrow Crown Court in February.
