A second man has been jailed today for the robbery and assault of an elderly man in 2010.

Vasile Christian David, 21, appeared at Wood Green Crown Court this morning, where he was sentenced to six years' imprisonment for robbery and possessing a Firearm.

David pleaded guilty to these offences in court on January 3.

His accomplice in the incident, Iulian Constantin Anisiu, 23, was also sentenced to six years' imprisonment in October 2010 for the same charges.

On July 7, 2010, Vasile David, Iulian Anisiu and another man, posed as customers before robbing a Post Office on East Barnet Road.

Two of the men were in possession of black imitation firearms.

Anisiu and David forced their way to the back office, and in the process they pushed 74-year-old shop manager Abdul Ebrahim on to the floor.

David then repeatedly kicked Mr Ebrahim in the stomach.

The pair then stole cash and stamps to the approximate value of £11,700.

All three suspects then made off in a Ford Ka, along Churchill Road in the direction of Brunswick Park.

Officers attended the scene and recovered an imitation firearm.

Mr Ebrahim was taken to hospital in a serious condition, receiving treatment for abdominal injuries.

He remained in intensive care for four days, and continues to receive specialist care.

David and Anisiu were arrested in Edgware on July 30, on suspicion of robbery.

Anisiu was quickly charged and remanded into custody, while David was bailed and fled to Romania.

He was arrested by the Romanian police on a European Arrest Warrant and charged upon arrival back into the UK in October 2011.
