THIS month the head and deputy head of a Wembley school were arrested as detectives investigated alleged bonuses at the school.

Whistleblower teacher Hank Roberts, who first brought allegations of bonuses at Copland Community School, in Cecil Avenue, welcomed police action but said it should have come sooner.

The arrests, of head Sir Alan Davies and deputy head Dr Richard Evans, came after a lengthy investigation by the fraud squad which in turn followed a probe by Brent Council.

Five others people were arrested throughout the year during the investigation and all have been bailed until a date in March.

In a Harrow Times website exclusive, it was revealed Sue Jones, head of Weald Infants School, in Robin Hood Drive, in Harrow Weald, was being investigated for financial mismanagement.

The suspension sparked outrage among parents. Harrow Council’s investigation later on in the year found no evidence she mismanaged finances for personal gain but she resigned in August.

The school will address a 31-point list of problems exposed during the probe by the council.

Also this month, Harrow pensioner Saeeda Khan, of Whitmore Road, who kept Tanzanian woman, Mwanahanisi Mruke, as a slave was found guilty of trafficking people for exploitation.

Khan kept her prisoner for four years, ringing a bell to summon her victim, deprived her of food and stopped her visiting her dying parents and going to their funerals.

She received a nine-month suspended sentence.
