BIN lorries across Harrow will help promote a new recycling campaign in the borough, launched on Monday.

Banners will be on the side of the lorries as part of the new national campaign called Nice Save.

Harrow is one of the best performers in the capital with more than 50 per cent of all household waste sent for recycling, helping save £1.2 million last year.

Harrow Council says to dispose of every tonne of waste costs £90, but just £20 to produce a tonne of recycling.

Councillor Phillip O’Dell, cabinet member for environment, said: “The less we spend on waste, the more money we can use for protecting front-line services.

“Harrow residents are among the best recyclers in London and thanks to their efforts the council is making big savings.”

The council is looking to save £62m over the next four years and believe recycling is an area where every home can do their bit.
