A FIREFIGHTER claims he was wrongly tasered by police in Harrow earlier this month.

Edric Kennedy-Macfoy has appealed for information on social networking site Facebook asking the public for video evidence of the incident.

He claims he was tasered after trying to tell a police officer about a youth throwing a stone at a police van.

In a statement on the site he said he has been a firefighter for the London Fire Brigade for six years and was off-duty when driving from Watford to South Harrow in the early hours of Sunday, September 4, when the alleged incident happened.

In the statement he claims he wrote in a south Harrow police station cell, he said he had to stop his car as he was travelling down Harrow View after he saw a police van blocking the road.

He initially believed this was due to a road traffic accident. In the statement he said: “Whilst I sat in my car waiting to manoeuvre around the police vehicle, there were youths traversing the pavement on my right side.

"One of the youths picked up what I thought to be a big rock and launched it at the driver window of the police vehicle. I took a description of the youth in order to relay it to the officer when he turned the van around.”

Mr Kennedy-Macfoy said he tried to address the officers but claims he received “verbal abuse.”

He continued with his statement on Facebook by saying: “All I wanted to do was explain the situation, retrieve my vehicle and go home.

“I began to traverse backwards as they advanced towards me. The next thing I knew I was having multiple spasms on the ground after being shot with a taser gun. This seemed to go on for more than five seconds.”

The Facebook page with the appeal for video footage from Mr Kennedy-Macfoy now has more than 600 likes from members of the public since it was posted on September 6.

He added in his statement: “I no longer have faith in the police service. I honestly feel this is a mockery.”

A Harrow Police spokesman said: “Police were called by members of the public and Harrow Council's environmental health officer on Sunday, September 4, to reports of a noisy party in Harrow View which was attended by in excess of 200 people.

“At approximately 2.30am, in the interests of public safety police decided to shut the party and began to disperse the partygoers.“Some of those attending became hostile towards police and threw bottles and bricks at officers.

“A specialist officer tasered a 28-year-old man, from Northolt, who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray.

“He did not require medical treatment and was bailed to a date in October. Four police officers received minor injuries caused by missiles thrown at them.”

Mr Kennedy-Macfoy declined to comment.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade also said the organisation could not comment on the matter.
