ONE lane of the northbound M1 has reopened following a fire, the Highways Agency has confirmed.
The motorway had been closed in both directions between junctions one and four since the early hours of Friday morning following the blaze at a scrapyard site, close to Scratchwood Services and Ellesmere Avenue in Mill Hill.
Train lines close to the fire were also shut down.
Wembley Stadium is playing host to two FA Cup semi-finals this weekend increasing traffic coming into the area.
The Highways Agency has advised drivers to find alternative routes or other means of transport to avoid the significant traffic delays.
A signed diversion route remains in place where drivers can follow black diamond signs northbound and black circle signs southbound.
