POLICE have issued a warning for football fans making their way to Wembley Stadium to behave at this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final games.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are expecting 90,000 fans for Sunday’s game between Stoke City and Bolton Wanderers and will be patrolling trains.

Passengers will not be allowed alcohol on board any trains arriving into Euston from Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent between certain times.

Alcohol can not be bought, carried or drank on all trains between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston between 5.15am and midnight.

This also applies to all return journeys between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly from 8.30pm.

Drinking from or carrying of open containers of alcohol on the London Underground Network is banned.

Superintendent Dave Roney, of BTP, said: “The Cup Semi-Final on Sunday will be a great occasion for both sets of fans. We want all supporters to enjoy the day and our policing operation will help to ensure they do.

“We will not tolerate intimidating or anti-social behaviour from those intent on spoiling the day for genuine supporters and the travelling public.

“Trains can become extremely busy during major sporting events such as this and we would urge fans to consider other passengers at all times

“We are asking fans to show some consideration for others on board the train and to moderate their language and behaviour - but above all, we want them to enjoy the day.

“We appreciate the vast majority are always well behaved – but we are warning anyone who steps out of line while travelling on the rail network will be dealt with by our officers.

"Not only are they risking a court appearance, they also risk missing out on seeing the match.”

Eoin Brunton, security manager for Virgin Trains said: “This will be a massive sporting weekend with two FA Cup semi finals and the London Marathon taking place in the capital.

“Virgin Trains is geared up to carry thousands of sports fans, and will provide extra services and charter trains to make sure it is a special day for everyone.”
