CHILDREN at Orion Primary School are gearing up for London 2012 after they were twinned with Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt's old school.
The Grahame Park school was paired with Waldensia Primary in Jamaica after winning the BBC 'Olympic Dreams School Search' competition in December.
The children had to submit a video about their dreams and aspirations for the future.
Orion was chosen to be twinned with Usain Bolt's school from more than 1,000 submissions from primary and secondary schools across the UK.
The headmaster of Waldenisia Primary in Jamaica, Dwight Berry, took time out from a conference to visit the pupils and talk to them about his famous former pupil
Danielle Williams, a teacher at the school, said: “We thought this would be a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about other countries outside the UK.
“Our aim is to become global citizens and expand global networks and to promote greater awareness of the world around us.”
The children plan to send creative projects, letters and pictures to the Jamaican school, as well as good luck cards to Usain Bolt who is one of the athletes being tracked by BBC World Olympic Dreams as London 2012 approaches.
“We want to promote Olympic values and show the children that anyone can fulfill their dreams,” Ms Williams said.
