A GROUP of Irish bands, calling themselves the Ginger Melodeon Experience, have got together to record a Christmas charity single for a hospice based in Harrow.

The single is a cover of the Band Aid song Do They Know It’s Christmas? and is sponsored by the West Bar, in Greenford.

Founded in 1987, St Luke’s Hospice, in Kenton Road, Harrow, is an independent charity serving Harrow and North Brent.

St Luke’s looks after usually around 500 patients with cancer and other serious progressive illnesses, such as motor neurone disease and heart, lung and kidney failure, every year.

It provides all its services free of charge and the charity relies heavily on the community to ensure that the work can continue to raise the £3 million needed every year with one third coming from the NHS.

BibleCode Sunday’s bass player, Enda Mulloy, said: “We were gigging one night - not so long ago - when the idea came to me.

"Ronan and I were talking about the original Do They Know It's Christmas? video and how much craic [fun] they must have had doing it, and we thought it'd be a great to do an Irish version for charity.

“So the next day I wrote up a recording plan, asked all the musicians I had in mind, I asked Michael Gallagher in the West bar to sponsor the project and that was that.

“St Luke's Hospice is a charity we love to support, as it's such a valuable hospice in the community, plus it's local to us. They rely heavily on charity support, so it's a real pleasure for us to do something to help them out.”
