THE organiser of an anti-Islam rally which an MP is trying to ban says he will not be responsible if protesters turn up anyway.

Tony McNulty, MP for Harrow East, is due to meet Home Secretary Alan Johnson to discuss possible routes to banning a demonstration by Stop Islamisation of Europe (SIOE) on December 13.

But Stephen Gash, head of SIOE in Britain, said: “The rules on spontaneous demonstrations are you can hold them.

“We've tried to act responsibly, the people who behave irresponsibly are not SIOE people – it's the people opposing us.

“All we are demanding is our democratic right to protest. If we are not going to be allowed that then the Government and people like McNulty can take responsibility because we are not going to take responsibility.”

He said his organisation places rules on those turning up to its protests, banning the use of rascist flags or those representing the BNP, but warned the restrictions would not apply if the rally was banned.

If the event goes ahead the group says it hopes to gather 2,000 people outside Harrow Central Mosque, in Station Road, where it is is likely to find members of Unite Against Fascism (UAF) holding a counter demonstration.

SIOE held its first protest in Harrow on September 11, when members were chased down Station Road by men who turned out to defend the mosque.

There are fears a second demonstration could again result in violence.

Mr Gash said he had hoped to hold the demonstration on St Nicholas Day “in the interests of diversity”.
