Unite Against Fascism to counter 9/11 Harrow Mosque protest

ANTI-FASCIST campaigners say they will counter an anti-Islam 9/11 protest outside Harrow Central Mosque.

A coalition of hardline groups are arranging a demonstration, against what they describe as the “islamisation” of Britain from 5pm to 8pm on September 11.

But when they arrive at the building, in Station Road, they may find Unite Against Fascism (UAF) supporters already camped outside holding their own event, due to start at 1.30pm with speeches at 6pm.

Harrow Council last week said counter-demonstrations would only make things worse but the anti-Fascists say they have the right to show solidarity by staging what they describe as a peace vigil.

Sarah Cox, 72, a member of UAF's Brent and Harrow branch, said: “I think what makes things worse is that if people don't stand up to these thugs they get away with marching into a place like Harrow.

“The sort of thing that follows then is attacks on shops or the fire bombing of mosques later on. They feel that they've got away with it.

“We are not out to fight them, I'm 72 years old and 5ft 1inch, I'm not sure I'd win.”

UAF and members of the English Defence League (EDL) together with Casuals United clashed in Birmingham on August 10, in skirmishes that led to police arresting 35 people.

Both sides say they intend to protest peacefully but accuse the other of having violent tendencies.

Stephen Gash, of Stop Islamisation of Europe, who was at the Birmingham demonstration and said “all the violence was perpetrated by Muslims and UAF supporters”.

He said: “We don't believe in moderate Muslims. We are saying to the moderate Muslims if you are moderate kick those extremists out of the mosques.”

He added: “The reason we are hardline against Muslims is that if people keep talking about moderate Muslims then they do nothing.”

The protest was organised following the collapse of another demonstration planned for August 29, which centered around allegations the mosque intended to set up a Sharia Court in its new building.

The religious institution has categorically denied the claims, with one member saying Britain is the “best country in the world” and has no need for any addition to the existing legal system.

Mosque leaders say they reject extremism and do not allow the preaching of extremist views.

Ghulam Rabbani, general secretary of the mosque, said: “We also believe that September 11 wasn't right.

“Everybody is allowed to pray but if we come to know that groups are extremist and they are trying to say something which is not right we don't let them.”

He added: “We have a policy of anti-extremism. If people have something against us, they probably don't know us.

“If you are Christian or Muslim we can still be friends. We hope the local community and our friends and the local government and police will be there to try seriously to defend everybody.”

Mr Gash said he does not believe the Mr Rabbani or other Mosque leaders when they say they are anti-extremist.

Councillor Susan Hall, responsible for environment and community safety, said Harrow Council is standing shoulder to shoulder with the Mosque.

She said: “The one thing we request is that we all work together to make sure that any demonstration goes off peacefully and that you don't in any way get involved in counter demonstrations because that's when there are even more problems for the police.”

As Chair of the Harrow Police and Community Consultative Group, a voluntary organisation, made up of ordinary members of public from all walks of life and representing the hugely diverse communities in Harrow,I humbly urge you all to please remain absolutely calm and dignified, should the demonstrations being proposed on Friday,September 11,outside Harrow Central Mosque go ahead.
Please remember,we are all decent, civilized human beings who value the law of the land to whom we all proudlybelong..Also,
that we are incredibly fortunate to live in a borough exploding with a richness of diversity, cultures and religions, that is the envy of all eyes and one of the safest in London.
We are inextricably bound together as ONE,united community of HARROVIANS---Christi
ans,Hindus,Muslims,S
ikhs,Jews,Zorastrian
s,Humanists and a host of others,co-existing peacefully and learning to enjoy the variety this has brought to our borough.
I sincerely appeal to you to display the immense common-sense and tolerance which is the hall-mark of Harrovians.
Turn your backs on the ill-conceived demonstrations ,proposed by the far right and any other groups who might wish to turn up on September 11.
It is our civic duty to allow fellow citizens to offer prayers,in this holy month of Ramadan,in a spirit of peace and brotherliness ---sending forth a message of friendship for others to emulate.Therein lies our strength.
It's shameful that this demonstration being planned under the guise of a "memorial event"for 9/11.This is both misleading and a ploy to try and wreck the good relations enjoyed by the whole community. This has been built after many dedicated years of careful nurturing, resulting in camaraderie between so many ethnic groups. This cynical attempt to divide us,by spreading false rumours about Sharia Courts being held in Harrow Central Mosque, must be nipped in the bud.
Borough Commander,Chief Superintendent,Dal Babu,Deputy Leader of Harrow Council,Cllr.Susan Hall,General Secretary of the Harrow Central Mosque,Ghulam Rabbani and Chairman of the Pakistan Society of Harrow, Ghazanfar Ali Chatta--leading authorities, have all respectfully appealed to you,the sensible people of Harrow,to completely disregard any demonstrations being planned outside Harrow Central Mosque and remain very calm.I fully endorse their positive sentiments.
As a humble member of our community, one of you, I passionately appeal to you to trust your local Police whose job it is to maintain law and order. Please give them your full support ,by carefully following any advice that is issued by them.Look out for their regular updates and only follow those.
As law-abiding,peace-lo
ving citizens we are duty-bound to get right behind them and do whatever it takes to collectively protect the Borough we love from infiltration by potential trouble-makers on this or any other occasion.
Long live the community of Harrow.

The "English Defence League" - a group of racist football hooligans with links to the fascist BNP - is threatening to hold a protest against the Harrow Central Mosque. We are holding a solidarity vigil to defend the mosque from these racists.
In May the "English Defence League" ran rampage through Luton, attacking Asians and Asian owned businesses. In July they marched through Birmingham shouting "Muslims out" at people going shopping.
We don't want these racist thugs in Harrow. Please join our vigil when you can, even if it’s just during your lunch break, or come along after work. And please sign our statement defending Harrow Central Mosque against racist attacks.
DEFEND HARROW CENTRAL MOSQUE
Join us for a vigil in solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters against this Fascist threat.
Friday September 11th from 1.30 pm
Outside Harrow Civic Centre, opposite the Mosque
Rally with local and national speakers at 6.00 pm
The "English Defence League", a group of racist football hooligans linked to the fascist British National Party, is threatening to invade Harrow on 11 September to "demonstrate" against the Harrow Central Mosque.
Islamophobia - bigotry against Muslims - is as unacceptable as any other form of racism. Its aim is to divide us by making scapegoats of one community, as the Nazis did with the Jews in the 1930s.
Today they threaten the mosque - tomorrow it could be a synagogue, temple or church. Today they threaten Muslims, tomorrow it could be Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, blacks, gays, travellers or Eastern Europeans. .
We have beaten fascists and racists before by standing up in unity against them: at Cable Street in the East End in the 1930s, at Lewisham in the 1970s, and recently in Derbyshire where black and white, young and old, Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Jew, gay and straight, all came together to oppose the BNP’s fascist rally.
Let’s protest against the racists and fascists and let's oppose their politics of hatred. Let's defend Harrow’s diverse and united community.
Tell them: We are black, white, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Jew
And there are many, many more of us than you!

This is just another case of mislabeling. The 9/11 rally is against a mentality that treats women as property and demands that all submit to Islam, accept a form of slavery, or die.

If you doubt what I say, look up Surah 9 verse 5, Surah 8 verse 60, Surah 3 verse 85, Surah 9 verse 29, Surah 2 verse 228, Surah 4 verse 34, Surah 5 verse 54, Surah 9 verse 12, and many more.

I could go on for a long time but these should give you an idea of what is being protested. Standing up for individual liberty and women’s equality is not fascist. Sharia Law under an Islamic Caliphate is more true to a fascist dictatorship. Islam allows no independent thought. This is very evident when you compare the achievements of enlightened Western Civilization to the achievements of the Islamic World.

Any religous extremists create animosity against their own cultural group when they use religion as a tool to promote violence, with the Jihadists who hijact Islam being no different to the Christians who headed the Inquisition, untill the late 19 century which saw the Inquisition eradicated and the majority of christianity and its various sects returning to peaceful practise of their beliefs. What one always has to consider is the actual real people who use the religion in question for what it is, a means of expressing peace and a way of setting morals in life. The majority of Muslims are peaceful people and are probably more against the hijacking of their religion for evil purposes than those of us from other religious sects and cultural backgrounds. That is why a united front against all forms of extremism must be shown, whether they be religous extremists promoting Jihad, or racist extremists of the extreme right wing, or extreme leftwing thugs of the UAF and Socialist parties, all of which portay a form of fascism. None of these groups do any good for society whatsoever and should be shunned. By supporting the law of the land and backing the police force in dealing with extremists of whatever nature, they will soon dissolve into obscurity where they belong and intergration of all the cultural groups that reside in this great country of ours can continue unhindered.

I suggest that the so-called "Anti-Fascists" that are often more intolerant and fascistic than the real thing, KEEP AWAY, together with the other so-called "protesters".

Quite why Harrow has been singled out for this pointless "9/11" protest, no-one can fathom.

The left wing fascist "anti-fascists" are as bad as, and in many cases worse than the right wing fascists.

We have a nice well ordered and friendly community here in Harrow and we do not want a bunch of Fascists, Trots, Marxists and "socialists" stirring it up.

I stand in defence of my friends, neighbours and residents of all persuasions.

You are NOT WELCOME here, keep away.

Fear not Harrovians. I and my fellow Jedi Knights will protect you (believers and un-believers). And you know how we'll do this? Because the force is with us. I did like the comments by Sonoo. Very nice. But only we Jedi Knights can handle this.

Richard tries to make a joke of the threat. Unfortunately death threats, racial abuse, bricks through windows and incitement to racial hatred is not a joke.
Anti-racists and anti-fascists are not going to go away and give a free range for Islamaphobic attacks on the united communities of Harrow.
We have shown that the people of Harrow will not take insults, threats or intimidation lying down. We all live and work in Harrow together in peace and turning a blind eye to fascist threats has never worked. Remember Cable Street! Remember the Holocaust.
The ones who are not welcomed in Harrow or elsewhere are those who use racism to attempt to divide us. They will not do so.
The lessons of the 1930's is the need to be forever vigilant against fascism, no matter what name they use.

Great point above Leon.
Incidentally, we have over the years learnt to ignore Richard and his nonsensical drivel.
