THREE teachers suspended from a Wembley school were re-instated because they said they would work in a “professional fashion”.

Hank Roberts, Shane Johnschwager and David Kubenk yesterday walked back into Copland Community School after weeks out of the office in which they exposed bonuses among senior management.

Philip O'Hear, acting head of Copland School, said: “I've reviewed the issue and they have assured me that they will work in a co-operative and professional fashion and in the light of my review I've decided that suspension isn't appropriate.

“Therefore the suspensions have been lifted. The school isn't here for the staff and staff disputes should not if at all possible be allowed to get in the way of the education of the children.

“What we are focusing on is delivering the very best possible quality of education.”

The trio had been suspended over claims a junior union rep's signature was electronically added to a letter sent to the board of directors but the allegations were quickly overshadowed by a row over bonuses.

Mr Roberts blew the whistle on £130,000 claimed by headteacher Sir Alan Davies on top of his salary over two years and passed a dossier of further accusation onto watchdog the Audit Commission.

An investigation was launched and Brent Council took the step of suspending Sir Alan along with deputy head Dr Richard Evans and bursar Columbus Udokoro amid allegations of “serious financial mismanagement”.

Philip O'Hear was parachuted in from Capital City Academy, in Willesden, and re-instated the three after meeting them to discuss the issue in person.

He said: “When I came in I found a school that's obviously had a difficulty. But it's obviously a difficulty that I'm glad to tell you doesn't seem to have affected teaching and learning at all.

“I found students and staff very positive and extremely well focused on preparing for their key stage assessments and exams.”

He added: “I think the academy is quite proud that it was felt we had the capacity to help the school in difficulty. That is a compliment to my colleagues at Capital City Academy.”

He said an inspection by education watchdog Ofsted cancelled this week will take place on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

He said: “I think you will find that the school will deservedly get a good report.”
