A Chinese restaurant has been voted the best in the country as part of a record triple award win.

JM Oriental, in Heritage Avenue, Colindale, shone at the Golden Chopsticks Award coming top in three categories including Best Restaurant in England.

It also won awards for Best Dim Sum and Best Design.

Owner Andrew Hung said it was a "great honour".

He said he was "very shocked" with the triple win, adding: "The awards recognise the teams for our ambition and vision.

"We are different from the ordinary run of the mill restaurants. Our way of running things is different.

"It's recognition of what we do that gives the younger generation who work with us a way to shine."

Joan Ho, who works at the restaurant, said: "I'm so proud to be one of the staff. Everyone worked hard to win the prize.

"It's not a personal job, it's team work, it's an honour."

The treble are not the first awards for the Chinese restaurant, which opened in 2021 serving traditional dim sum and contemporary Cantonese cuisine and won the Golden Chopsticks Best Fusion award the following year.

The Golden Chopsticks Awards was founded in 2017 by celebrity stylist Gok Wan and friends Lucy Mitchell, managing director of oriental food specialist SeeWoo UK, and food and drink specialist Sarah Lewis.

The awards ceremony, held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on April 29, recognises East and South East Asian cuisine across the UK.

This year's panel of judges were led by TV chef Ken Hom, who was made a CBE for services to culinary arts, authority on Asian cuisine in 2022.

Other judges included 2014 MasterChef winner Ping Coombes and TV chef Jeremy Pang.

Andrew added: "The judges, they build the platform for us. Without them there would be no platform to blossom on.

"Forty years ago nobody really knew about oriental food. We use the energy they gave us."

"They work so hard and they all cheer each other on. It's a great night."
