PINNER residents have spoken out about the lack of parking restrictions in their area.

Cars are allowed to park in the narrow road leading up to the railway bridge on West End Lane - even though it creates a blind spot for motorists.

Jack Wells, 79, of West End Lane, a retired civil servant and member of the Pinner Association, said: "Every year it gets put off. If you are driving up here there's parking all the way up to the bridge and you're completely blind.

"It's an accident waiting to happen."

Mr Wells would like the council to extend an existing controlled parking zone which makes it illegal to park in certain areas of West End Lane between 11am and 12pm.

Hema Solanki, of nearby High View Road, a learning assistant at Nower Hill School said when cars are parked on the road there is little space left for traffic.

She said: "You're actually left with about one and a quarter carriages and there aren't that many small cars so it's a bit of a squeeze."

On Friday Councillor John Nickolay, chairman of the traffic and road safety advisory panel, told the Harrow Time he would like to see the controlled parking zone extended but the council does not have the money to pay for it this year.

The issue will not be up for review until 2009.
