A leisure centre has seen its ‘official’ rating jump from ‘Good’ to ‘Very Good’ following a recent inspection.

Harrow Leisure Centre, based in Christchurch Avenue, Wealdstone, received the improved grade from Quest – the industry’s leading quality scheme managed by Sport England.

The body, known as ‘the Ofsted for leisure centres’, took note of the centre’s improved lighting, better changing facilities and general redecoration.

It also praised its community work, commitment to diversity and the friendly, professional staff.

Cllr Sue Anderson, responsible for community, culture and resident engagement at Harrow Council, said: “It might not look like much from the outside but on the inside it’s awesome; a gem of a fitness facility for all residents to enjoy.

“We all knew that before but, now that it has been noticed officially, there really is no excuse for Harrow residents not to get down there and see for themselves.”

Harrow Leisure Centre, which opened more than 40 years ago, has 6,000 members and is hoping to top 1.4 million visitors this year.

John Sewell, contract manager at Everyone Active, the body which manages the centre, said it would continue to build on this success in 2018 and beyond.

He said: “We strive to exceed our members’ expectations, and so we’re thrilled to be recognised for our fantastic customer service.

“We work hard to engage the local community and we could not be prouder of the number of people we see coming through our doors.”
