A school that was forced to move site after a chalk mine was discovered underneath it has been celebrating excellent exam results.

More than 90 per cent of the Key Stage 2 pupils at Pinner Wood School hit the expected standards in reading, writing and maths.

These figures, which are way above the national average of 61 per cent, are particularly impressive given the upheaval and uncertainty the school experienced upon discovery of the mine.

Head teacher Sarah Marriott said credit must go to her colleagues and students who were determined to show that they could triumph in adversity.

She said: “We were predicted to do well, but these results are fantastic. The pupils and staff have been amazing through everything they have faced these past six months.

“Rather than let it affect them, the results prove how resilient and dedicated they are.”

Harrow Times:

The school is set to move back to its original home in Latimer Gardens, Pinner, on January 8, something which Miss Marriott described as the “icing on the cake”.

It marks a double celebration for Pinner Wood, and it is encouraging any families keen to become part of its success story to get in touch about September 2018 admissions.

Prospective families should book a visit at the current site at Harrow Civic Centre, in Station Road, so as not to miss the admissions deadline of January 15. There are not expected to be any tours of the Pinner building before this date.

Tours at the Civic Centre will provide prospective families with the chance to meet Miss Marriott and other members of staff as well as current pupils.

Starting at 9.45am, they will be held on November 7, 14, 21 and 29. To book a place, call 07946 095127.
