People have been painting the town purple to raise funds for and awareness of a hospice.

St Luke’s Hospice, in Kenton Road, Harrow, is celebrating its very own purple day as it marks the start of its Care Week.

It has encouraged Harrow residents to don their finest purple garments and think about the work done by the hospice, which provides care for those with cancer and other serious illnesses.

A number of fundraising events have been happening across the borough and every penny collected will go towards this care.

Nicola Walsh, vice-principal at St Dominic’s Sixth Form College in Harrow explained how everyone at the school would be wearing purple and there would be various collections throughout the day.

St Luke’s charity shops have also been competing for the best window display, while community groups have been hosting special events to mark the occasion.

Throughout Care Week, and over the next few weeks, there will be smatterings of purple around Harrow as people get behind the effort for St Luke’s.
