A HARROW pensioner has helped the fight against poverty in Africa by taking part in a sponsored bicycle ride.
Bernard Taylor, from Kenton, joined more than 50 cyclists in a ride along the Lea Valley last week.
The 80-year-old was the oldest to take part in the ride, which followed a route between Ponders End and Broxbourne.
The riders were raising money for the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development's (CAFOD's) work in Africa. Bernard said he was overwhelmed by the generosity of his fellow parishioners at All Saints Catholic Church, Kenton.
Their donations exceeded the target of £1,000 - which is enough to provide bicycles for 20 healthcare workers in rural Nigeria.
