A single mother is desperate for something to be done after finding what she believes is human faces in an alleyway near her home.

Caren Duhig, 33, and nine-year-old daughter Cassie, live in High Road, Harrow Weald.

The pair were disgusted by what they found in the alley, just off High Road, which is right next to their flat.
Miss Duhig, who has lived in Harrow Weald for more than a year, said the alleyway is the only way that her and her daughter can access their home.

She said: “We have human faeces in our ‘council owned’ alley on a regular basis, as well as everything else that is dumped there.

"What would I do if she had stepped in it? Where would I take her if she had tripped and fallen on something? People are using it as a dump.

“We see soiled mattresses thrown into our alley on a weekly basis, which restrict our access and prevent the public from walking through, and there’s bins full of food waste and nappies dumped in the alley and Swiss army knives were once spotted behind the lampposts.

“There’s three lamps in the alley, but the light doesn’t reach our service road. We have to use a torch to unlock the padlock on our gate in the dark.

"I’m not going to accept being treated as any less of a human being by any authority, and I will work together with the community and the local councillors to make sure our voices are heard and our problems are taken seriously."

Ms Duhig said she has called Harrow Council to report the mess on several occasions, but said he has had to wait two weeks for the mess to be cleared.

The cleaners use a leaf blower to clear the mess, but it doesn't solve the problem as she says there is always some left, and seems to be an occurring problem in the alley.

Harrow Councillor Graham Henson, portfolio holder for environment said: “It’s completely unacceptable that our residents have to put up with the disgusting behaviour of individuals who are blighting our borough. Our residents deserve clean, safe and pleasant neighbourhoods.

"That’s why we are investing more into this service to make Harrow clean again. This includes increased street cleaning teams and issuing fines to offenders who have no shame or respect for those around them.

“This alleyway is currently cleaned once every four weeks, however thanks to this new investment we will clean it more regularly.”

Cllr Henson added that this public footpath/alleyway is cleaned though the land is privately owned and they have recently invested money into the street cleaning service.
