A Harrow AM is calling for an urgent meeting with London Mayor Sadiq Khan, to help with calls for step free access at Harrow-on-the-Hill station.

Navin Shah, London Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow has blasted former mayor Boris Johnson, saying he was “deeply disappointed” when he cancelled the £25m funding for step-free access in early 2014.

Mr Shah has now written to Mayor Sadiq Khan, following a site visit with the Deputy Mayor for Transport of London, Val Shawcross.

He is asking for a meeting with Mr Khan to help resolve this problem once and for all.

In his letter to the Mayor, Mr Shah said: "With active support of local resident groups and stakeholder bodies like Harrow Association of Disabled People and ‘Harrow Mencap, for at least 10 years, I have fought for step-free access to this station. "In addition to the Opportunity Area related infrastructure development, step-free access is vital for disable & older people and families with children.

"Unfortunately our lobbying of the previous Mayor proved to be an utter waste of time.

"Whilst holistic infrastructure improvements are required to provide a fit for purpose public transport hub, the priority for Harrow’s community is step-free access.

"I’m grateful for the positive support I’ve received to date from Deputy Mayor Val Shawcross on this issue and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss how we can deliver step free access to Harrow.’’
