A group of ten people took part in a 20 hour ‘sleep out’ and raised more than £1,000 for a homeless charity.

In efforts to raise awareness of the issue and as much money as they can, people as young as 14-years-old slept outside Harrow’s civic centre on October 25.

Liam, 14, said: “I couldn’t believe how cold it actually got! This experience has taught me to be grateful for what I have and that no one should have to sleep without a roof over their head.”

The team of ten are part of Harrow Council’s Make a Change Leadership Development Programme, and the money raised will go towards the Harrow Churches Association.

The council’s Make a Change Leadership Development Programme is part of Early Intervention which gives young people the chance to voice their opinions and make a difference to their community.

Roisin, 17, took part in the sleep out said: “It was a great experience; I learned a lot of things from it like how disadvantaged the homeless really are and how grateful I am to have a roof over my head.”

Cllr Christine Robson, portfolio holder for children, schools and young people said it was great to see young people raise awareness of national issues such as homelessness.

A ‘Horror Night’s Funfair’ will take place this Friday November , and all money raised will go to Harrow Young Carers, an organisation that helps provide unpaid care for a person that has physical or mental health problems.
