Students from across the borough attended an open day to catch a glimpse of a brand new secondary school in Pinner.

At Pinner High School on Wednesday, June 29, the students first divided into form groups in the main hall for the Trailblazer Induction Day.

From there, they went on to sample taster classes in unusual subjects such as Mandarin, made chemical rainbows in the new science labs, and designed art installations to be displayed in the reception in time for the first day of classes in September.

Harrow Times:

Head teacher Chris Woolf said: “The school is theirs so to see their creativity on display right from day one is essential.”

The next order of business is choosing the house names, another task on which the new students have the final say.

Given a number of options from three separate categories – inspiring local people, inspiring women, and inspiring diversity – the winners are announced as Roger Bannister, Malala Yousafzai, and by an absolute landslide, Muhammad Ali.

Mr Woolf said the house names were the school’s first statement of intent, so it was essential they struck the right tone while also teaching students about participation and democratic processes.

“These are three very worthy names for our houses, representing our inclusive ethos in our local community,” he added.

The school is sponsored by high schools in Harrow and will welcome its first students – around 180 Year 7s – in September.
