Village residents have sent a letter to councillors opposing planning permission at a school.

Roe Green Village Residents Association are against a multi sports development for Kingsbury High School and have sent letters out to various councillors including Cllr Muhammad Butt.

Debbie Nyman, from the residents association, said: "The Village is approaching its centenary, 2018 but there won’t be any celebrating if this installation goes through.

"Aside from the human aspect, the area is a haven for a variety of wildlife including species of bats and owls.

"We sent a letter to every Brent councillor, from which we have had a very good response. In fact, one councillor stated that she was brought up in the area and is pleased to learn that the owls are still here. She used to hear them every night when she was a child.

"Sadly our own local councillors haven’t been in touch since December."

The residents association are worried about the prospect of an all-night, 365-days-per-year commercial facility backing onto ‘‘this quiet and calm conservation area.’’

The Residents Association representatives met with GKA and a representative from Lucozade Power League (LPL), who have teamed up with Kingsbury High School to deliver the scheme, in December 2015.

Ms Nyman said: "They agreed to send all documents to us, as and when they were ready, and not at planning application registration, as they are now claiming.

"Due to this delaying action, we feel they have been unreasonable. Therefore, if it goes to court, we cannot make any correspondence we have with them available to you at this moment in time, so as not to prejudice the outcome.’’

A newsletter has been sent out to parents and is on the schools website regarding the planning and accuses the residents association of being "localised opposition making claims about the scheme and giving inaccurate information".

It also states in the newsletter that the new Astroturf pitches will be solely for school use during school hours but residents are worried about the pitches being used for private hire up until late in the evening.

Ms Nyman said: "It is a disturbing prospect of an all-night, 365-days-per-year commercial facility backing onto this quiet and calm conservation area.

"There is more at stake over this proposal than just a school wanting to install a sports field.’’
