Two sisters are celebrating their success at British Schoolgirls Races 2016.

Cerys, 15, and Giselle Gorringe, 12, who attend North London Collegiate School in Harrow, claimed victories in the competition at the French resort of Flaine.

The girls, who live in Camden and train at Snozone in Milton Keynes and overseas with the Kandahar Ski Club, were racing with a group of students from North London Collegiate School for the two-day event.

They were competing against 150 other schoolgirls in the races which included a giant slalom, slalom and parallel slalom.

After an impressive second place overall in giant slalom and a win in the under-16 registered skier category, Cerys went on to take the overall win in the slalom - beating girls up to five years older than her.

Giselle also put in two amazing performances, winning the under-14 category in the giant slalom and taking third spot overall.

Then in the slalom, she took another win in the under-14 category with impressive skiing for her age.

The results mean Cerys was on top of the podium for the under-16 category in the combined and Giselle on top in the under-14 category.

Cerys was in second spot in the overall combined results.

Their performances, along with the rest of their team, contributed to North London Collegiate School coming second in the ‘best school’ category in the giant slalom and slalom and winning overall best school over the two races.

The British Schoolgirls Races, which this year were blessed with two days of sunshine and perfect racing conditions, features racers from more than 35 schools across the UK.

Historically the event has proved to be a breeding ground for young British skiing talent, with Olympian Chemmy Alcott and Paralympic sight guide Charlotte Evans being previous competitors.

The British Schoolgirls Races aim to give aspiring racers the chance to be part of well-organised on-snow races, which is important for growing confidence and giving the young racers competitive experience.
