A woman who battled through endless rounds of chemotherapy and a mastectomy is taking to the catwalk to show others that there is a life after cancer.

Personal assistantt Debbie Baxter, of, Pinner, will get to strut her stuff as she joins 31 models on stage to take part in this year’s Breast Cancer Care’s London Fashion Show next month.

The show, which will be held at The Grosvenor House Hotel, showcases models are who living with or have survived breast cancer wearing designer and high street brands.

Debbie was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 after a finding a lump on her breast and booking an appointment with her GP to be on the safe side.

Convinced it was nothing, she even took her 81-year-old mum with her to the Breast Clinic with a view to go shopping and enjoy a spot of lunch afterwards.

She said: “Getting the results was a huge shock, my whole world turned upside down and it felt as though I had hit a brick wall.”

The 54-year-old said when she first heard the word cancer, she was worried it was a death sentence but other people’s stories helped her change that view.

She said: “I remember reading about the Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show in You Magazine and found the story incredibly inspiring.

“It was so good to read stories about other women who had survived, it made me realise that I was not alone on this journey.”

After diagnosis, she underwent a mastectomy and reconstruction followed by six cycles of chemotherapy which finished in October 2013.

She said: “I think in general I was quite lucky as the only side effect I experienced was losing my hair.

“I returned to work in December 2013 and I was so relieved to get back to normal and enjoy life”.

Stepping on stage on October 7, Ms Baxter will strut her stuff in a wide variety of outfits from designers including Butler & Wilson and Jeff Banks to high-street stores like House of Fraser, Dorothy Perkins and George at Asda.

The models will be styled by fashion correspondent Hilary Alexander and London Fashion Week coordinator Lesley Goring, hair will be styled by Sassoon Salons and make-up will be done by Estée Lauder.

By taking part in The Show this year, Ms Baxter hopes her story can inspire others as they inspired her – along with raising a bit of money for the charity she turned to for guidance.

She added: “Breast Cancer Care is invaluable with the service it provides; sometimes you just need that reassurance from someone other than family or friends”

The celeb filled event, now in its 19th year, aims to celebrate the women’s bodies and also launches October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Samia al Qadhi, Chief Executive at Breast Cancer Care, said: “We are so excited to see our inspiring models take to the catwalk in front of their friends and families.

“Their courage and hard work is an inspiration that not only makes The Show a really special event but also helps Breast Cancer Care raise vital funds to ensure we help others face the brutal effects of a breast cancer diagnosis.”
