AN Edgware couple thought they were going bananas when they discovered the yellow fruit growing in their garden.
But Adam and Naomi Palmer quickly realised their eyes were not deceiving them, and that it was in fact the tropical fruit they were staring at.
The couple bought the banana plants from a garden centre six years ago, which have grown bigger each year.
And the hot weather this year led them to finally start producing the fruit – although the couple are not hopeful about the likelihood of the bananas being ready to eat.

Mr Palmer, 44, an IT contractor, said: “We bought them about six years ago. They were probably a foot tall. They have just got bigger and bigger, they are probably about 25 foot tall now.
“I never usually water them, but I have this year because it’s been so hot. There is one main one.
“I think it is highly unlikely we will eat them, but you never know. I don’t mind the odd banana, so it would be nice.”
