An Irish dancer was ranked among the top 50 in the world an international competition.

Lily McDonnell, of the Kelly Wright Academy of Irish Dance based in Pinner and Hatch End, visited Montreal, in Canada, from March 29 to April 5 to dance at the World Irish Dance Championships.

After getting through the qualifying round, which saw more than 1,000 dancers in every age group compete for a chance to dance in the final, she took on 150 dancers from all over the world to be placed 38th.

Teacher and world medal holder Adrian Kelly said: “This is amazing for a dancer that has only started competing just over two years ago.

“We are all very proud of Lily and her hard work and dedication is paying off.

“The world championships next year are in Glasgow so we will be hoping to have a lot more children from Harrow competing at the event.”
