Tenancy deposits over the past year were 75 per cent more expensive in Harrow than the average for England and Wales, statistics show.
By law, landlords must ensure deposits from tenants are protected by an authorised tenancy deposit protection scheme.
Figures submitted to The Deposit Protection Service between March 2014 and February 2015 show deposits for Harrow postcodes averaged £1,437.73.
This amounts to £618.38 more than the national average of £819.35.
But Harrow’s figure was £284.23 less than the average London deposit of £1,721.96.
The report comes after a Labour Party study showed that rent is currently taking up 45 per cent of income from tenants in Harrow.
