Harrow has recorded the lowest number of crimes across the capital in December.

The new figures made Harrow the only borough in London below the average crime rate.

A total of 967 crimes were recorded during the month, down from 1,072 recorded in November.

The borough has also just been ranked joint second in London for levels of confidence in policing.

Borough commander Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens said: "What an amazing start to the year, having the lowest crime rate in the whole of London. I am delighted and proud to be the police commander in the safest borough in London.

“It has always been my objective since I arrived in Harrow in 2013, and we must continue to remain the safest borough throughout the year.

“This achievement is down to all my officers hard work, strong partnerships with outside agencies, massive support from the public and our relentless pursuit of justice.”

Neighbouring boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Hillingdon and Barnet all recorded average levels of crime during the same time period.

Mr Ovens added: “I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and we should all be proud to live and work in the safest place in London.”
