Parents have launched a petition for a zebra crossing near a school after a pupil was hit by a car.

In the first week of the new school year a ten-year-old girl was knocked down by a car in Locket Road, while on the way to Belmont School.

There was no lollypop lady on patrol and there have been concerns about the lack of safety measures near the school.

The girl had to spend several days in hospital and is still recovering from her injuries.

Now parents and school governors have joined together calling for Harrow Borough Council to install a zebra crossing in Locket Road to make it safer for pupils to walk to school.

Father of the injured school girl Priyesh Bakhai said: “Ever since my daughter was hit by the car I have felt something needs to be done.

“We started the petition to put pressure on Harrow Council to put in a zebra crossing. There are safety measures near the school but they are not enough.

“This is not just about my daughter’s safety, it is about the safety of future pupils. I am still angry about what happened to my daughter, because it could have been prevented.

“An accident was going to happen in Locket road eventually and it could happen again, but it could be a lot worse.”

School governor Phil O’Dell, who is backing the campaign said: “Since a pupil was knocked down there has been a lot of concern from the school community about road safety.

“People want to see more done near the school to make it safe for children.”

The Harrow Times has contacted Harrow Borough Council about the petition and is awaiting a reply.
