Neighbours have joined together to make improvements to their housing estate.

Six months ago people living on the Honeybun Housing Estate, in West Harrow, created a new tenants and residents association.

Since then neighbours have come together to improve their estate by planting flowerbeds, painting doors and fences, and clearing rubbish.

Today officers from Harrow Borough Council came in to help install larger elements of the estates improvements such as new lighting and fencing.

Chairman of the Honeybun Tenants and Residents association Terry Frisch said: “It all started earlier in the year. We used to have an association for the estate years ago but it didn’t last.

“A few of us got together because there were a few issues on the estate like fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour and we wanted to get them sorted.

“Things just grew from there and it’s been great to see people from across the estate coming together to help improve where they live."

Vice chairman of the association Andy Marshall, 67, said: “The change I have seen on the estate has been phenomenal.

“What is really nice to see is the community really taking pride in the estate again and everyone wanting to keep it going.

“I’ve lived here my whole life and I have never known it to be like this and things are looking so much better.”

One of the improvements made has been the installation of a gate near a small alleyway, which led to a dramatic reduction in anti-social behaviour.

Cabinet member for housing councillor Glen Hearnden said: “The work of the people on this estate has been really positive.

“As a council we want to help people on our estates but we need to be told what needs to be done.

“The tenants and residents association here has been fantastic and we really want to help set up more around the borough to help improve our estates.”
