A headteacher says she is very proud after the number of pupils getting the highest grades increased for the third year in a row.

In all, 64 per cent of pupils at Hatch End High School achieved five GCSEs at grades A to C including maths and English.

Hundreds of pupils arrived at the school to collect their results today.

Evan Cryer-Jenkins, 16, who received nine A*s, said: “I’m really happy with my results. I had forgotten about results day really. It was at the back of my mind and I wasn’t really nervous.

“But when I got here and other people started to open their results, the nerves started to kick in.”

Cesar Reyas, who also received nine A*s, said: “I’m just so relieved and I didn’t expect to get these results.

“I was pretty nervous last night and this morning. I was so surprised to do this well it’s been a really exciting day.”

Fellow pupil Tanya Mehra, who got five A*s and five As, said: “I’m just so glad the waiting is over. At the start of the summer the results seemed like such a long way away and they crept up on me.

“I’m really really pleased with my results.”

Phacika Popat, who got three A*s and straight As, said: “I’m so happy about my results. It has been a long wait.

“Without the teachers at this school I wouldn’t have got the grades I did.”

Headteacher Sue Maguire said: “The number of students gaining the highest grades including maths and English has increased for the third year running.

"This I believe is down to the staff at Hatch End High School being the best team of professionals with whom I have ever worked.

"We concentrate on what works best for our young people: high quality teaching, outstanding pastoral care and exception academic support.

“I am very proud of all our students and staff today.”

Head of Year 11 John Williams said: “We’re all delighted with the results and very pleased for all the pupils.”
