Prime Minister David Cameron writes letter to the people of Harrow

The Harrow Times received a letter from the Prime Minister David Cameron this week after his visit to the borough.

In one week the people of Harrow will go to the polls for the local and European elections. Here I want to tell you the three reasons why you should get out there and vote Conservative.

First, if you want a team in Europe that gets the best deal for Britain, vote Conservative. We’ve proved our mettle. We’re the party that vetoed that EU treaty, that saved Britain from bailing out Eurozone countries, and that cut the EU budget for the first time ever – saving taxpayers £8.15 billion. And we’re the only party committed to holding a referendum and asking the British people: in or out.

Remember: the Liberal Democrats and Labour won’t give you a say, and UKIP can’t. So if you want your say on Europe, there’s only one option – voting Conservative.

Second, if you want good local government that costs less, you need to vote Conservative. When Labour was in Government, council tax doubled. Labour councils are still addicted to spending, whereas Conservatives are always trying to get the best deal for residents.

Take Harrow Council. Since the Conservatives took over, the town centre has been supported – with free Wi-Fi, free on-street parking, more street cleaning and better park maintenance – encouraging more people to visit Harrow and helping local businesses to succeed and expand.

Third, if you want to stick to the long-term plan that is turning Britain around, vote Conservative. Labour left us with a Great Recession, but we’ve been building a Great British revival – with 1.5 million more people in work, more business in Britain than ever before, and one of the fastest growing economies in the developed world.

You can see the Great British revival right here in London. Since the last election, 320,000 more people are in work and 3.2 million people have had a tax cut. More than 150,000 young people have started apprenticeships and there are some really big infrastructure programmes underway, like the largest engineering project in Europe, Crossrail.

It’s clear that our long-term plan is working. So if you want this to continue, if you want more jobs, more opportunities and a better future for the people of Harrow, then vote Conservative on May 22nd.

Dear Mr Cameron

It was nice of you to write a letter to all of us, especially because I have voted Conservative for 22 years. However, I will not be voting for you this time because our Conservative Council caved in to homophobic Islamic fundamentalists who demonstrated against the adoption of a Somali girl by a lesbian couple. Yes, I know that you will tell us that this was a decision made by council officers not council members. I do feel, however, that council officers would *not* have made a decision to suspend the adoption process *without the full support of the Council Leadership*.

Everyone who lives in Harrow is part of an ethnic minority. Tolerance is the key to all of us getting on together. Quite frankly, to deprive a 3 year old child the opportunity to be brought up in a loving home is scandalous and you should be ashamed that it is members of *your* party who have let this child down.

In Harrow, Mr Cameron, being Conservative means being homophobic and that is disgusting.

Great to hear from the Prime Minister. He has made the effort to visit us and now to write to us.At least acknowledge he has made the time in his busy schedule for Harrow.Where are the OTHER party leaders?Perhaps planning a visit closer to election day?

We still have the opportunity to vote in whatever way we may wish.Nobody is twisting our arm!!Surely we're adult enough to do our own thing.

Frankly, being part Europe has given us sleepless nights, more and more of late and definitely needs re-visiting.Nobody is advocating getting out since there are positive points in being part of the whole--but a VITAL,INDEPENDENT part, not having to bow down before Brussels and accept the bitter medicine whenever it's dispensed. We need to have this debate with our OWN countrymen.

We must re-negotiate what is important for the people of Great Britain which is a fiercely proud sovereign nation.Anything which robs us of our freedoms must be challenged very strongly and sorted out in our favour.

There was never any news about what happened to this little girl. it seems to me that the Council and the social workers were playing a card game called trumps. i.e. Somali culture trumps lesbian adopters.

Makes you wonder what else they play trump cards for and what is this weeks organisation that is trumps with an eye on the election.

I hope the little girl has found a home where she will be loved and cared for properly.

Why was the demonstration held outside the Civic Centre against this child's adoption not a demonstration against FGM?

Why this obsession with excusing bad behaviour as culture? After all we used to put old women in the river and drown them to prove whether they were witches or not. If the old lady floated she was guilty and if she drowned she was innocent. Foot binding and cannibalism were cultural but I am sure we would not allow them in Harrow.
