Missing Harrow baby found in Barcelona

Harrow Times: Missing baby found in Barcelona Missing baby found in Barcelona

A missing baby whose disappearance sparked a major search in the Spanish city of Barcelona has been found.

Harrow-born Farah Afzal was found and is now back in England, after she was taken out of the UK by her parents, Mohammed Afzal, 38, and Zainab Rasul, 30.

She is at the centre of proceedings in the family division of the high court and a judge gave permission for her identity to be revealed two weeks ago in the hope publicity would help return her to the UK.

Council bosses at Harrow Borough Council asked Spanish football fans visiting England for the Manchester City vs Barcelona match to “keep their eyes open”.

The authority began care proceedings following Farah’s birth and social workers raised concerns about her welfare.

Council leader Councillor Susan Hall said: "This is obviously the conclusion we all wanted after an anxious search across Barcelona.

"Harrow Council officers took early and swift action to protect the welfare of this baby and laid the ground with Spanish officials for her to be returned quickly to the UK once found.

"This episode sends a strong message to families who believe that fleeing to Spain or anywhere instead of talking to the local authority will put an end to their troubles.

"The best outcome is always to sit down and talk to the local authority sensibly and responsibly - that means we can avoid the kind of trauma and upset we have just witnessed here."

The episode also sends a strong searching message that are authorities doing enough and doing it fairly and sensitively to avoid such drastic actions taken by the families.
