Wild weather is set to continue across London today with heavy gusts battering the city, forecasters have warned.

The Met Office issued an amber alert for wind from 10am today until just before midnight across London.

Residents are urged to ‘be prepared’ and expect disruption to power lines and transport, as well as flooding in some areas.

Yellow warnings for wind and rain have been issued for London until Sunday, with potential flooding in some parts of the city.

Up to one month's worth of rain could fall in some areas of the UK within the next few days.

A statement from the Met Office said: “Yet another area of low pressure is expected to develop and move north east across England and Wales during Friday afternoon and evening, clearing to the east on Saturday morning.

"This will bring spells of heavy and persistent rain, especially across the southern parts of England and Wales. The rain will also be accompanied by gales.

"As is usual this far ahead, there is some uncertainty in the track of the system and therefore the location of the most intense rainfall.

"However, it seems likely that another period of heavy rain will affect the warning area overnight Friday and into Saturday."
